Vocabulary Related to Family Members Revision

If you are preparing for JLPT, you need to pay more attention to those terms used in referring family members, as the usage of these words are a bit confusing to the foreign learners. When a English speaker to refer 'mother' he may say 'my mother' or 'your mother' or his 'mother', but for a Japanese speaker when want to say about his mother he will say haha and if he wants to refer his friend's mother he will say 'okaasan'. In lesson 12, the terms used for referring own family members was illustrated, and here in this lesson, I have illustrated other sets of words. Following are the terms used for referring someone's family members (not the speaker's own family members)

おくさん = (yours/someone's) wife
